Title
Manufacture and Characterization of Mortar Incorporating Carbon Dioxide-Dissolved Nanobubble Water
김종규 Jong Kyu Kim
Abstract
This study investigated the potential of using carbond ioxide(CO₂)-dissolved nanobubble water as mixing water to enhance carbon-based compoundse questration in cementitious materials. Mortar specimens were prepared using four types of mixing water: generalwater, nanobubble water, CO₂-dissolved general water, and CO₂-dissolved nanobubble water. Thermogravimetric analysis and compressive strength tests were conducted to evaluate the physicochemical and mechanical properties of the specimens. The results indicated that specimens prepared with CO₂-dissolved nanobubble water exhibited the lowest calcium hydroxide content and the highest calcium carbonate content. Additionally, these specimens achieved the highest compressive strength, demonstrating an increase of 24.06% compared to those prepared using general water. These findings suggest that CO₂introduced during the mixing process reacts with calcium hydroxide, thereby promoting the formation of calcium carbonate, which fills the pores and results in a denser microstructure. The enhanced microstructural densification is considered a key contributor to the observed improvement in mechanical performance. Overall, the use of CO₂-dissolved nanobubble water as mixing water is a promising and environmentally sustainable strategy for simultaneously enhancing CO₂sequestration and improving the mechanical performance of cement-based materials.
