Abstract
The titanium (Ti) turning scraps produced in the metal cutting process polluted with cutting oil, which makes them difficult to recycle, meaning that they are often exported abroad. In this study, Ti turning scraps were treated in a bipolar packed bed electrolytic device to remove soluble cutting fluids (SCFs). The CODCr of the SCFs and the oil content of the Ti scraps were analyzed according to changes in the experimental condition (eg., scrap density, current density, etc.). Without the electrolyte and with a current density of 40 A/m2, the COD removal efficiency was 73.83%, 75.32%, and 80.02% and the oil content of the scraps was 1.54%,1.46%, and 1.94% for a scrap density of 10 g/L, 20 g/L, and 30 g/L, respectively, after 60min. Without the electrolyte and with a scrap density of 20 g/L, the COD removal efficiency was 75.32%, 85.81%, and 89.26%, and the oil content was 1.46%, 1.32%, and 1.21% when the current density was 40A/m2, 60A/m2, and 80A/m2, respectively, after 60min, Although COD removal efficiency was not significantly higher when the electrolyte was added, the oil content was the lowest at 1.11% with the use of 10 mM NaCl.
