Title
Performance Evaluation of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system for Fine Dust Wastewater Treatment
김봉철 Bongchul Kim , 박찬규 Changyu Park
Abstract
The construction industry is often blamed for being a severe polluter because it produces dust in the atmosphere of construction sites. Workers at construction sites generate dust from various behaviors such as drilling, loading and unloading, and excavation. In addition, construction dust is a problem not only for workers but also for local communities. A dynamic, multi-venturi system was developed to reduce construction dust. Because this system uses water to clean air loaded with dust, the water then needs to be separated from the dust. The dissolved air flotation (DAF) process is already used for the separation of water and suspended solids in the water treatment field. In this study, the DAF process was applied to the separation of water and dust. We evaluated several operating conditions, which included the quality of the filter press membrane and the operating time of the DAF, on the performance of the DAF system. Our results showed that pore size and air permeability of the membrane effect water flux. Moreover, the operating time of the DAF process improved removal of fine dust and metal. Thus, optimizing operating conditions is important in the removal of fine dust with the DAF process.
