Abstract
Bio-stone Ball(BSB) is a media for the purification of polluted water in rivers. This study was evaluated of microbial activity, microbial adherence and cluster structure of the BSB. Mixed liquor suspended solid(MLSS), mixed liquor volatile suspended solid(MLVSS), DNA, protein, and heterotrophic bacteria(HPC) in the BSB were higher than those in the GB(General broken stone). The enzymatic activity of dehydrogenase, glycosidase and lipase per unit area in the BSB showed higher than that of GB. According to the results of the bacterial community structure analysis of attached to BSB, the most characteristic phylum were 52.6~62.2% of proteobacteria and 4.1~13.8% of Nitrospirae. It was very high compared with the results of domestic and overseas sewage treatment plants. The Shannon index was found to be in the range of 6.37~6.90 using the results of Pyrosequencing analysis, which is very high compared to the diversity index obtained from other similar studies. A variety of microbial community is created in the BSB biofilm, and it is considered that decomposition of organic matter caused by various kinds of organic metabolism in biofilms. Various community and high activity of microbial in the BSB biofilm are considered to have a significant effect on water quality efficiency.
