Abstract |
Anaerobic/anoxic/oxic(A2O) process has been proven to be effective for wastewater treatment, especially for nutrient removal. In this study, potential of sulfur-denitrification during the A2O process was evaluated to find out the possibility application of sulfur-utilizing autotrophic denitrification process to promote the nitrogen removal in the process for low C/N wastewater. Under anaerobic condition in the presence of nitrate-nitrogen, the denitrification rate ranged from 0.512 to 2.418 mg/g VSS/hr. However, under anaerobic condition in the presence of nitrate-nitrogen and sulfur, the denitrification rates were increased to 360%. The results showed that denitrification of anoxic/anaerobic stage is influenced by the amount of sulfur under low C/N ratio condition and sulfur- utilizing autotrophic denitrification process can further be used as removal of nitrogen in the A2O process for low C/N wastewater. |
