Abstract
In this study, odor reduction efficiency is compared by applying soil microorganisms and activated sludge to conventional liquid manure circulation system. The odor reduction efficiency was compared the concentration of H2S, NH3, and complex odor generated in the aeration tank seeded with soil microorganisms and activated sludge respectively. In addition, the correlation was investigated between NH4+-N, T-N, COD, T-P, and TOC concentration of effluent and odor emission. Soil microorganisms showed the higher reduction efficiency of complex odor and NH3 than activated sludge by 18% and 29%, respectively. Moreover, the concentrations of NH4+-N, T-N and COD in effluent were also lower in soil microorganisms than in activated sludge. However, the concentrations of T-P and TOC were similar between two bio-reactors, which indicates that odor emission was not affected by T-P and TOC concentrations. As a result, the soil microorganism showed a higher odor reduction efficiency and better quality of effluent than the activated sludge on liquid manure circulation system.
