Title
Pb(II) Removal in Aqueous Solution Using Eggshell and Chitosan Hybrid Adsorbent
최희정 Hee-jeong Choi
Abstract
In this study, hybrid adsorbent (EC) were prepared by mixing eggshell and chitosan for treating of Pb(II) from aqueous solution. According to the FT-IR analysis, EC adsorbents have bonded -OH groups, C=O carbonyl groups, and Carboxylic groups as main functional groups, which makes it very easy to adsorb heavy metals in aqueous solution. The adsorption process using EC was suitable for pseudo-second-order and Langmuir adsorption isotherms, and the maximum adsorption capacity was determined 183.2 mg/g. According to the adsorption thermodynamic analysis, adsorption of Pb(II) onto EC was physical adsorption and exothermic reaction. Desorption experiments for the reuse of EC adsorbents showed that the removal efficiency of Pb(II) decreased with increasing desorption number, and less than 50% when reused more than 3 times. The EC adsorbent was made of biodegradable material without secondary contamination. Therefore, even if the adsorption capacity is slightly lower than that of conventional adsorbents, they can compete with conventional adsorbents for environmental protection and sustainable economic circulation.
