Title
Effect of Coagulation/Multi-layer Membrane Filtration for Water Treatment
현길수 Kil-soo Hyun
Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of coagulation/multi-layer membrane filtration for treatment of water using a synthetic water containing turbid and humic substance. The experiments of coagulation/sedimentation (C/S) process using jar test with alum as coagulant and multi-layer membrane filtration process using stirred dead-cell filter were carried out. Influent water qualities were in the range of turbidity <100 ntu and CODMn <30 mg/L, respectively. As a result, the increase of alum dose decreased turbid matter, but not organic matter. Transmembrane pressure (TMP) build-up of membrane gradually raised with increase of alum dose compared to that of no alum dose. Compared with single-layer microfiltration (SLMF) membrane, dual-layer microfiltration (DLMF) membrane achieved higher removal efficiencies with respect to turbid and organic matters. DLMF membrane achieved slightly higher removal efficiencies than SLMF membrane, with respect to turbid and organic matters, while TMP build-up of SLMF membrane was approximate 2 times lower than that of DLMF membrane.
