Abstract
In this study, the optimum conditions of As(V) removal using zirconium modified bentonite. Batch experiments were carried out with the adsorbent(Zr-Bn). The SEM analysis result showed that the surface of the finished structure was coarse and uneven. Through the EDX analysis, it was confirmed that the toxin was synthesized in the bentonite. As a result, the removal rate of As(V) was similar to pH 2 ~ 5. However, the removal rate was slightly decreased at pH> 6. As the amount of adsorbent increased, the adsorption amount of As(V) also increased and optimum adsorption time is 10 hours. The removal efficiency of As(V) decreased with increasing concentration. As a result of the ionic strength test, the increase of ionic strength did not affect the removal of As(V) by Zr-Bn. These results suggest that zirconium modified bentonite(Zr-Bn) can be used as an adsorbent to wastewater contaminated with toxic heavy metal ions As(V).
