Abstract |
The water pipeline system has continuously aged and been deteriorated, and aging of the pipeline system increases pipe failure risk and O&M cost. Any significant breaks may cause significant economic, social, and environmental impact. It is most important for managing the pipelines to maintain water supply service without significant disruption through rehabilitation, replacement of aged pipelines, and new installation. Pipe condition assessment and structural monitoring technology is necessary for proactively detect defects before actual failure occurs. The definition of trenchless technology is methods, materials, and equipment capable of being used for the installation of new or replacement or rehabilitation of existing underground infrastructure with minimal disruption to surface traffic, business, and other activities. Trenchless technologies can be used to inspect, construct, repair, rehabilitate and replace buried pipes without disrupting the adjacent properties or public. This study is to establish the R&D plan for water pipe inspection, assessment, monitoring technology to precisely monitor structural integrity and provide effective assessment data for rehabilitation decision making process, and trenchless replacement and installation construction technology of water mains. |
