Abstract
The four main river project and the implementation of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) required re-evaluation of the existing monitoring stations for water quality measurement due to structural and/or non-structural environmental change of runoff and water quality management. Therefore, the present study modified the selection criteria for representative stations in mid-watersheds, developed an evaluation method, and applied it to 28 representative stations in the Yeongsan river and Seomjin river water system. The method has three evaluation phases consisting of five characteristics, 14 evaluation sectors, and 24 evaluation items, respectively. In particular, the five characteristics include temporal representation and spatial representation, ecological representativeness, hydraulic stability, and information acquisition stability. The evaluation method was applied to the existing 28 representative stations in mid-watersheds of the Yeongsan river and Seomjin river water system. The evaluation results were shown in radar charts (score of each characteristics), total score, and evaluation ranks with the table including the ranks and the corresponding interpretation. It is necessary to study more deeply about the determination of weights for evaluation characteristics for improving the information of the evaluation.
