Title
Removal Behavior of Eggshell-membrane for Cationic Dye from Aqueous Solution
최희정 Hee-jeong Choi
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the bio-adsorption of cationic dye using eggshell-membrane (ESM) in the aqueous solution. ESM is a promising adsorbent for cationic dye as methylene blue (MB). ESM adsorbed successfully >99% of the MB in aqueous solution at the following optimal conditions: pH 8, 20 mg/L of ESM dosage, 303 K of temperature, >35 μm of particle size and 30 min of contact time. It is to be observed that with the increase in sorptive concentration, the amount of MB uptake increased and the concentration dependence data were fitted well for the Langmuir adsorption isotherm than Freundlich adsorption model. Langmuir adsorption capacity was found to be 158.3 mg/g. Kinetic study enabled, a rapid equilibrium was established between the solid/solution interface as within ca. 20 min for MB. Moreover, the removal behavior of ESM for MB was greatly influenced by the solution pH. The bio-adsorbent, ESM, can be a promising adsorption due to its high efficiency and low dose requirements. In addition, ESM can be recycled to reduce not only the cost and the demand for water but also the extra operational costs for reusing wastewater.
