Powdered Activated Carbon Quality Standard Test Method for Evaluating Geosmin and 2-MIB Removal Capacity

Abstract
This study was established standard test method (Standard Test Procedures) for PAC quality in order to build the quality standards of the PAC used in the water treatment plant for processing taste&odor substances (geosmin, 2-MIB). Standard test method for assessing the quality standards of the PAC was stirred (5~10RPM stirring, temperature 20℃) at the initial geosmin concentration of 200ng/L, PAC dosage of 20 mg/L, contact time of 40 minutes and pure water (distilled water) conditions and was measured by the removal rate of concentration removed compared to the initial concentration. Satisfy condition of the PAC quality indicates a greater than 80% removal efficiency. The average removal rate of PACs except for one was more than 80% satisfied and the standard test method of PAC established to target the odor substance was expected to be utilized as the use criteria at the time of purchase new PAC.
