Abstract
This study examined the removal characteristics of heavy metals (Zn2+, Cu2+, Pb2+) from aqueous solution using activated carbon (AC)/bentonite (BT) composite. The metal adsorption removal from aqueous solution improved by AC/BT composite, in comparison with AC and BT. Kinetic equilibrium of heavy metals in AC/BT composite reached within 180min. The kinetic data presented that the slow course of adsorption follows the Pseudo first and second order models. The equilibrium data were well fitted by the Langmuir model and showed the affinity order: Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+. The results of Zn2+ also showed that adsorption capacity slightly increased with increasing pH from 6 to 10. Meanwhile, the adsorption capacity of Cu2+ and Pb2+ unchanged. From these results, it was concluded that the AC/BT composite can be successfully used the removal of the heavy metals (Zn2+, Cu2+, Pb2+) from the aqueous solutions.
