Title
Influence of Filter Bed Configuration on Headloss in Granular Media Filtration
현길수 Kil Soo Hyun
Abstract
The effectiveness of granular media filter bed to capture particulates depends on physical parameters, physical characteristics of the particulate suspensions, and the design variables such as flow rate and the packed depth and size of filter media. In this study, the effectiveness of granular media filter bed configuration including media packed depth and media shape on the profile of headloss build-up was investigated from experimental studies using real and synthetic wastewater. The results for various granular media filtration experiments showed that the magnitude of headloss is dependent on the parameters such as particulate size, filter media size, filtration velocity, packed depth, and specific deposit. Lesser particulate detachment occurred in the filter bed packed with smaller size media that took place at higher headloss gradients than those in the filter bed packed with larger size media.
