Abstract
A pilot test was caried out to evaluate the operation and management of a vertical type water treatment plant (WTP), which consists of ultrafiltration (UF), ozonation, granular activated carbon (GAC), and UV oxidation. Five different cases were tested according to pressure conditions. Operation pressures were controled by adjusting the outlet valve of UV oxidation process and pressure data of unit processes were monitored during the pilot test. As a result, the differential pressures of GAC process for the tests 1 to 5 were 0.19, 0.28, 0.46, 0.71, and 0.15 kgf/㎠, respectively and trans-membrane pressures of UF process were 0.50, 0.60, 0.65, 0.75, and 0.85 kgf/㎠, respectively. These results imply that the operation pressure of a unit process affects that of another unit process, which impacts the performance of all the unit processes. In addition, the higher total differential pressure(GAC differential pressure+TMP), the more use UF active power. Therefore, the pressure control should be very important to operate the vertical type WTP.
