Title
Adsorption Characteristics and Kinetics Studies of Reactive Red 4 by Granular Activated Carbon
이종집 Jong Jib Lee
Abstract
In this study, the adsorption characteristics and kinetics of reactive red 4 from aqueous solution using granular activated carbon has been investigated for the batch adsorber and the packed column. The effects of adsorbent dose, particle size initial dye concentration, pH and temperature on adsorption of reactive red 4 have been studied. Base on Langmuir constant(RL) and Freundlich constant(KF), This process could be employed as effective treatment for adsorption of reactive red 4. By estimated Temkin constant(B), This adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo second order model with good correlation. The mechanism of the adsorption process was determined from the intraparticle diffusion model. Base on the Gibbs free energy and enthalpy, the adsorption of reactive red 4 onto granular activated carbon is physisorption and endothermic in nature. The negative Gibbs free emergychange and positive enthalpy change indicated the spontaneous and endothermic process nature of the adsorption.
