Abstract
This research evaluated an effect on the membrane fouling with permeability resistance according to the EPS(Extracellular Polymeric Substances) concentration. To change the EPS concentration that affected organic loading, A2/O and A2/O2(aerobic reactor in addition to A2/O reactor) process was installed. With respect to nitrogen and organic matter removal, both reactors showed high removal efficiency and A2/O2 showed higher removal efficient than A2/O process. But The efficiency of phosphorus removal , both reactors presented low removal efficiency because of low C/N ratio and concentration of organic matter. Also, the concentration of EPS, A2/O2 showed lower concentration than A2/O. It is likely that the concentration of organic matters is proportional to the concentration of EPS in accordance with the concentration of organic matters. Lastly, the characteristics of the membrane pressure in accordance with operation time, A2/O2 process showed had the longer cleaning period than A2O by about 1 week. In conclusion, the concentration of EPS was observed to be lower in A2/O2 process than in A2/O process.
