Title
Reverse Osmosis Concentrate Treatment by Biological Aerated Filter using Glass-ceramic Media
최희정 Hee Jeong Choi
Abstract
The aim of this study was treatment of Reverse Osmosis (RO) concentrate, which usually comes from reuse of wastewater treatment, using biological aerated filter (BAF) with glass-ceramic media. BAF is known as economic and efficient treatment method for the effluent standard. The result of the treatment of RO concentrate by BAF process was found to be high efficiency for BOD removal (95.86%). However, the removal efficiencies of COD (78.80%) and SS (81.12%) were relatively low compared to that of BOD. The high BOD removal efficiency is due to the most complete oxidation of organic matter which comes from low F/M ratio (0.48 kg BOD/kg MLSS·day) of the influent. The TN and NO3-N removal efficiencies were 76.92% and 79.39%, respectively. However, TP and PO4-P removal efficiencies were relatively low with 61.03% and 68.41%, respectively. This may be due to the fact that the TBOD/TP ratio (9.60) was relatively low. To increase the nutrients removal efficiency, RO concentrate is required the external carbon source.
