Title
Effects of Granular Media Filrtation Processes on Saline Water Pretreatment
현길수 Kil Soo Hyun
Abstract
The performance of filter beds using granular media such as fiber cube, ceramic ball, ahthrcite, and GAC was evaluated as a pretreatment for organic and particulate matter removal in the water wth high concentration of saline. Applied filtration velocity (FV) were<50m/h for high-rate fibre filter (HRF), < 5m/h for biological aerated filter (BAF), and <10 m/h for anthracite media filter(AMF) and granular media filter (GMF). As a result, the HRF bed was more effective inreducing turbidity, while the BAF bed was efficitive in reducing COD and ammonia nitrogen. The performance was a slight effective compared to HRF/BAF/AMF system due to higher specific surface area of GAC. Turbidity concentration in a half depth of HRF and BAF beds decreased to approximate 70% removal rate of total amount removed in both bed.
