Abstract
The aim of this study was found to optimum concentration and pH to treat of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in Reverse Osmosis (RO) concentrate, which usually comes from reuse of wastewater treatment, using a ferrate. Ferrate is known as environmental friendly and efficient treatment method. For this experiment, three various ferrate concentrations (10?⁴ M (Run I), 5*10?⁴ M (Run 2) and 10 ?³ M (Run 3)) and various pH (3, 5, 7, 9) were prepared. The result of the treatment of COD in RO concentrate using a ferrate was found to be high efficiency for COD removal at pH3. Ferrate have more oxidative in acidic than for alkaline. The COD removal by various concentration of ferrate was obtained 40.25%, 73.55% and 24.75% for Run 1, Run 2 and Run 3, respectively. Run 2 (5*10?⁴ M) was measured 33% to 48% more COD removal than for Run I and Run 3. Therefore, optimum concentration of ferrate and pH were obtained to reduce of COD by pH 3 and 5*10?⁴ M of ferrate.
