Abstract
Carbon paste electrode was chosen and used for the electrochemical sensor studies because of its several advantages such as low bock ground currents, reproducible results, simple surface renew ability, easy fabrication and modification with wide range of compounds. Hence, the carbon paste electrode was modified using the organo-sericite materials and hence employed in the sensor studies. The organo-or inorgano-organo modified sericite are useful materials in the modification of carbon paste electrode which ultimately could be used in the fabrication of electrochemical sensor for the low level determination of(3) from aqueous solution. It was observed that the performance of the resulting modified electrode possessed significantly high signals in terms of cathodic or anodic current comparing to the unmodified carbon paste electrode, which ultimately be implied for low level removal of As(3) from aqueous solutions. Moreover, reatively high scan rate favored the efficiency of detection. The two electrolytes employed i.e., NaCl and NaHCO₃ showed very comparable results at different pH values studied. The pH dependence showed that low pH favored the sensitivity of detection which is in a line to our batch sorption data for which the As(3) showed enhanced sorption capacity using the modified sericite samples.
