Title
Treatment of Reverse Osmosis concentrate by using Biological Filter
최희정 Hee Jeung Choi , 이승목 Sung Mok Lee
Abstract
The aim of this study was treatment of RO (Reverse Osmosis) concentrate, which usually comes from reuse of wastewater treatment, using biological filter (BF). BF is known as economic and efficient treatment method for the effluent standard. The result of the treatment of RO concentrate by BF process was found to be high efficiency for BOD removal (95.86%). However, the removal efficiencies of COD (37.66%) and SS (60.91%) were relatively low compared to that of BOD. The high BOD removal efficiency is due to the most complete oxidation of organic matter which comes from low F/M ratio (0.049 kg BOD/kg MLSS day) of the influent. The TN and NO·3-N removal efficiencies were 54.45% and 60.78%, respectively. However, TP and PO4-P removal efficiencies were relatively low with 47.60% and 55.28%, respectively. This may be due to the fact that the TBOD/TP ratio (8.01) was relatively low. To increase the nutrients removal efficiency, RO concentrate is required the external carbon source.
