Abstract
In general the outer parts of biofilm keep an oxic condition cause of the dissolved oxygen in water but the inner parts of it keep an anaerobic condition cause of exhaustion of dissolved oxygen, which supplied from the bulk water flow. The depleted oxygen in inner parts of biofilm gives rise to slough off of biofilm from bio-media. In this studies to protect a slough off of the biofilm on a biological media the hollow fiber tubes were utilized for the inner parts of biofilm sustaining an oxic condition by passing the air to the center of them. The pilot plant experiments eqipped with hollow fiber tube(inner circle : 1mm, outer circle : 3mm) were performed with the treatment capacity of 20ton/day. In the experimental results TCODcr removal showed the high efficiency but SCODcr removal did the lower efficiency than TCODcr. The reason that TCODcr removal efficiency was high, was considered for the biofilm of hollow fiber tube sustained oxic condition do not only detatch easily but also give a sticky surface attached SS. The profile of oxygen concentration in biofilm of hollow fiber tubes could be predicted that the dissolved oxygen concentration may be high at the inner parts of biofilm, being low with close to the outer part. But more outer part contacted with the bulk water flow may keep high oxygen concentration cause of the oxygen diffused from the water.
