Abstract
Aeration systems use 40 % of the total electric power in the wastewater treatment system, and many researchers and engineers have studied to save the aeration energy in the field. As the nitrification is the main design parameter of Oxic condition, if the nitrification can be monitored, aeration power will be able to control and reduce. In this study, nitrification and oxygen uptake rate were analysed correlation of two parameters to control aeration power in SBR process, OUR-N(Oxygen Uptake Rate for Nitrification reactions) algorism was developed to decide nitrification ending point based on microorganisms respiration. OUR curve started decreasing under about 5 mg/L NH4-N and showed up bending point. Ammonia nitrogen, since it was 0 mg/L, OUR still decreased after OUR did not change when NO3-N formation was stopped. When nitrification and organic matters oxidation reaction were finished, microorganisms respiration were in a state of endogenous respiration, so OUR did not change. At this point, it could be determined by the time of the nitrification ending point. It was concluded that OUR measurement could be use the indicator of nitrification reaction, the result of this algorism apply SBR process, aeration time and electric power could reduced.
