Abstract
This study was focused on underlying membrane fouling on three CODcr loads of influent with a passive adsorption and 3-step cleanings. Passive adsorption is measuring the permeability resistance after submerging membrane within the reactor in the state of zero flux. 3-step cleanings are physical cleanings(Rinsing and backwashing) and chemical cleaning(0.05% NaOCI). Run 1, 2 and 3 was CODcr 250, 500 and 750mg/L, respectively. Hydrophilic MF membrane modules were submerged in an activated sludge reactor and measured the resistance was measured by putting it out every week. As the result of permeability resistance on CODcr loads, permeability resistance is higher as CODcr load was increased, then physical cleaning was governing the recovery of membrane permeability during 2 months. However, chemical cleaning was needed for the membrane recovery after 40 days because of cake formation and pore clogging. Also, most protein was detected in solution of chemical cleaning, on the other hand, carbohydrate was removed by physical cleaning. Accordingly, it found that the protein would be a major substance increasing membrane fouling when operation time would be lapsed at high CODcr load.
