Title
Characteristics of Coastal Groundwater Salinity by Seawater Intrusion
고병련 Byeong Lyeon Ko
Abstract
The study area is the eastern part of Jeju island where salinization occurs severely by seawater intrusion. The purpose of this study is to investigate the physical and chemical characteristics of salinization of groundwater at the Eastern area of Jeju island. For this purpose, the major ions of groundwater, spring water were analyzed. Physical and chemical water quality analysis is performed for widely spread groundwater tube wells of 11 points and springs of 3 points in the east area of Jeju island. The salinization of groundwater is widely known as one type of water contamination in all over the coastal area. To investigate this salinization of groundwater, the various approaches are needed because its characteristics is widely changed from area to area and from time to time, depending on the aquifer conditions. It is necessary to find the way to consider the effect of tides on groundwater development, and to continue studying on salinization according to seawater intrusion because the problem of seawater intrusion in the whole Cheju island may become serious. Especially continuing study on salinity diffusion in tube well by the variation of water level which is affected by seawater according to tides must be achieved.
