Abstract
Since SBR(Sequencing batch reactor) process, which is a compact biological nutrient process, utilizes influent organic materials as an external carbon source for phosphate and nitrate removal. In this study, a bench scale experiment was carried out for SBR process to investigate simultaneous phosphate and nitrate removal in anoxic condition at various F/M ratios in the range of 0.12~0.44 kg COD/kg MLSS·d. The phosphorus release and excess uptake in anoxic condition were obviously observed at F/M ratios of 0.12~0.44 kg COD/kg MLSS·d. Phosphorus release and uptake in anoxic condition had significantly high correlation with organic material and nitrate concentration. The phosphorus release and uptake was enhanced as the F/M ratio of anoxic phase increase. Specific denitrification rate had significantly high correlation with F/M ratio of the anoxic phase too. The rate of phosphorus release and uptake in the anoxic condition were 0.08~0.94 kg S-P/kg MLSS·d and 0.012~0.1 kg S-P/kg MLSS·d, respectively.
