Abstract
In this study. the pilot scale experiments were performed using bank-filtered water as raw water in K region of the middle of Nakdong River to select the optimum treatment process that could remove manganese effectively. The processes applied in pilot plant were manganese contact filtration process, aeration oxidation process and bio-film contact filtration process. In the manganese contact filtration the average removal efficiency of manganese was 98.4%(manganese conc. 0.03㎎/L) when manganese concentrations were ranged between 0.80 and 3.40㎎/L and pH was controlled in the range from 7 to 8. The average removal efficiency of aeration oxidation process and bio-film contact filtration process was 58.2% and 85.6% respectively. In conclusion the removal of manganese was effective in the process of manganese contact filtration but aeration oxidation process and bio-film filtration process should be further investigated at various conditions to verify the process effectiveness.
