Title
Investigation of Necessity for Introducing Advanced Drinking Water Process into Water Treatment Plants in Seoul
윤제용 Yun Je Yong
Abstract
Recently, Seoul Water Works announced the plan to introduce the advanced water treatment process in water treatment plants which are only equipped with the conventional water treatment process. This plan was made in order to improve the water quality of drinking water in Seoul and gain the public confidence on the integrity of drinking water which was severely hampered by a series of drinking water related accidents and the claim for negating the biological stability. This study emphasized on the importance of defining the exact goal of water quality in choosing the advanced water treatment process which is critical in successful investiment. Four raised water qualitiy issues which are (1) taste and odor, (2) disinfection byproduct. (3) disinfection, (4) synthetic organic chemicals were examined individually on the potentiality as the goal of water quality with the present water quality data which were provided by Seoul Water Works. The quality of these water quality data were discussed with the necessity of further careful monitoring and study for them.
