Title
A Study on Characteristics of Telemeteing & Telecontrol Equipment for Water Utility
문홍진Hong Jin Mun
Abstract
A Remote Terminal Unit is an equipment which monitors and controls instruments in water, electricity, gas or oil supply facilities that have a long distance transmission line or pipe. The unit is the hub of those facilities in order to safely and efficiently supply users. The unit was first introduced to electricity industry and advanced, and it was introduced to water industry for remote monitoring purpose only in 1980s. It was developed to control pumps or valves as remotely monitoring in the early of 1990s and applied to most of waterworks in the late of 1990s. The unit is used in various of purposes, to transmit one or two measured flow or pressure data in supply or drainage pipelines, to monitor and control flow in junction stations, water supply stations or pumping stations. or to automatically monitor and control instruments with programming. This unit was imported from other nations at the beginning, but recently domestic products are dominant. As information technology (IT) industry has rapidly grown, its types, functions and prices are various. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to help optimally design and improve according to its applications through research of current use in the water utility and also to briefly define currently used terms in order to prevent workers in waterworks industry from terminological confusion.
