Abstract
This study was focussed on the theoretical analysis of substrate removal using the novel BNR system, Advanced Step Aeration(ASA) system which could cope with not only a low level of municipal wastewater but also a high strength of apartment wastewater. Kinetic coefficients derived from bench-scale experiments for mass balance analysis on substrate could he estimated as follows ; the maximum substrate utilization rate k, the saturation constant K_s, the endogenous decay coefficient K_d, the yield coefficient Y and the specific growth rate l^1_(max) was revealed to 2.2 d^(-1), 92 ㎎/L, 0.054 d^(-1), 0.46 ㎎VSS/㎎ BOD_5, and 1.01d^(-1), respectively. Using kinetic coefficients of ASA system, the net yield parameter Y_n could be shown as 0.44 and also theoretical RAS ratio could be described. Substrate removal coefficients, ψ₁, ψ₂, ψ₃ and ψ₄ in anaerobic, aerobic, anoxic, reaerobie tank, respectively, was obtained and equations on effluent substrate levels in each tardy could be derived. On the basis of kinetic coefficients theoretical RAS ratio was 0.28. It was verified that correlation between theoretical values and experimental values in substrate removal of each tank be very close.
