Title
Treatment Technique and the Improvement of Filtrate Quality
최승일Suing Il Choi
Abstract
After the turmoil caused by the appearance of virus in the treated water, the Ministry of Environment is planning to set the Treatment Technique to protect the treated water from contamination by virus. To help establishing Treatment Technique, the Treatment Technique in the USA has been introduced and the various removal efficiencies of the virus and Giardia by filtration process have been analysed. Furthermore the characteristics of the filtrate quality from 47 water treatment plants have been evaluated to find out the key factors to be improved. The turbidities of slow sand filtrate were relatively high to those of rapid sand filtrate. More intensive disinfection is required for the slow sand filtration. The air and water backwashing have resulted in better filtrate quality. However the surface washing need to be operated carefully to get better water quality. Water turbidities were higher than 0.3 NTU in summer and fall requiring more closer monitoring during those days.
