Title
Characteristics of Biofilter on the Contaminated Surface Water Including Algae
강용태Yong Tae Kang,송근관Kune Kwan Song
Abstract
The Nak-Dong river has contaminated by the inflow of inadequately treated domestic sewage and waste water. Therefore Nak-Dong river has suffered progressive eutrophication in the form of pollution caused by the growth of excessive amounts of phytoplankton. In orther to solve these problems the algae removal efficiency of Biofilter based on a fixed-biofilm reactor system for treating was investigated. In spring and winter, when water bloom occurred, the average efficiency of chlorophyll-a removal was 90% at an average influent chlorophyll-a concentration of 82㎍/L. We estimated that almost all of the algae trapped in the biofilter was degraded biologically. Furthermore, efficiency of turbidity, color, NH₄-N and DOC removal exceeded in the influent of highly polluted. In addition to coagulant dosage and sludge quantity of Advanced Water Treatment System using Biofilter was decreased about 70% and 50% respectively.
