Abstract
Water treatment plant sludge occurred in sedimentation and inverse wash process. Sludges are generally managed by disposal to the ocean and reclamation after dehydration using mechanical or natural dry method. However, disposal to the ocean will be prohibited by international law, and reclamation to sanitary facilities is going to be more difficult due to environmental issue. Physical, chemical, and geo-technical characteristics of water treatment plant sludge were analyzed by experiments. Dehydration sludges were examined the possibilities of recycling as a construction material. Performed experiments are as follows ; sieve and hydrometer analysis, liquid and plastic limit test, specific gravity test, compaction test, and unconfined compression test to sludges mixed with coal ash and fiber. As the results of this study, mixtures(sludge mixed with fiber) have larger OMC(optimum moisture content) and smaller γ_(dmax)(maximum dry unit weight) than sludge only. When having the same mixture ratio with coal ash, as compared fibrillated bundle mixtures with mono filament mixtures, mono filament mixtures have smaller OMC and larger γ_(dmax)·Unconfined compression strength are increasing as increasing coal ash mixture ratio and longer curing time.
