Title
The Removal Characterization of Algae by Coagulation

Abstract
In this study the effects of algae and its byproducts on the coagulation of water, were investigated on the laboratory scale. Usually Algae has a negative effects during coagulation. However, we don`t have enough data to explain why algae has a negative effect on coagulation. After algae was cultured, we prepared the algae in three different ways. In the first case we centrifuged the medium to use pure cells. Another sample used was from cells exposed to high frequency sound, destroying the cell membranes leaving IOM`s. In the final case the algae was untreated. After these processes the pretreated algae samples were put. The water was then coagulated. Turbidity from untreated algae was higher than the other two samples of algae. In every case as the cell numbers of the samples were increased, turbidity also increased. The zeta potentials in the treated water were affected by the many levels of pH, due to the inorganic matter from algae. Results seem to indicate that the zeta potential of the water is affected, by the organic compounds in algae, rather than the algae itself.
