Title
Variation in Dewatering Characteristics of Biosolids with Organic Loading
권재현Jae Hyun Kwon,조영하Young Ha Cho,김민규Min Kyu Kim
Abstract
Using leachate biosolids, dewatering characteristics and sludge properties including specific resistance to filtration(SRF), solid concentration of dewatered cake, extracellular polymers (ECPs), particle size distribution, turbidity and pH are investigated according to variations of organic loading rates. As monitoring results of a full scale plant, it`s revealed that hydraulic retention time and temperature are major influencing factors on sludge dewatering. As. the organic loading rate decreases, the dewaterability of activated sludge is worse during lab scale experiments. This result might have come from decrease of ECPs quantity and increase of pH. Owing to this fact, the particle size gets smaller and the turbidity of sludge increases and then the cake clogging is accelerated. On conclusion dewaterability of biosolids wary with organic loading rate which can change sludge properties. Therefore, for the improvement of solid-liquid separation characteristics such as biosolid dewatering, the aeration basin needs to be operated under the optimal condition of organic loading considering the solid-liquid separation of biosolids as well as effluent quality.
