Title
Phsycal Properties of Metal Oxides Impregnatod GAC and Adsorption of Atrazine on Metal Oxide/GAC
김철규Cheol Gyu Kim
Abstract
As a preliminary study to develop the new adsorptive catalyst supports for the treatment of water and waste water, metal oxide/GACs were prepared by sol-gel process on granular activated carbon(GAC), and by heat treatment of 350℃ under air atmosphere for 2 hours. From the experimental results, it was shown that metal oxides on surface of GAC were well spread, and that its particle size was less than about 5㎛. In general, BET surface areas and micropore areas were increased with increasing of contact time of GAC on metal oxide precursor solutions and pH of these precursor solutions. Adsorption capacities of atrazine on metal oxide/GAC were decreased with decreasing of pH of precursor solutions and increasing of contact time of GAC on metal oxide precursor solutions. This difference between N₂ and atrazine adsorption on metal oxide/GAC can explain that metal oxide precursors were impregnated and crystalized on surface of macro- and mesopore, and resulted in expanding BET surface areas. Whilst adsorption capacities of atrazine may be decreased by covering of adsorption sites on surface of GAC by metal oxide.
