A Study on the Heavy Metal Removal in Sewage Sludge by PROREX SYSTEM

Abstract
This study was to experiment, through sewage sludge treatment by PROREX SYSTEM, the chemical change of O & F(oils and fats), the removal rate of heavy metal according to reaction time and the chemical change of oils and fats The results are as follows. 1. The acid value of O & F increased uniformly and rapidly in case of after sludge input more than before that, though peroxide value increased with repeated increase and decrease. 2. The removal rate of Cd was between 17.6% and 77.7% when acid value was between 0.6 and 1.2. It increased linearly when acid value was between 0.6 and 1.2, and was nearly constant after 1.2. 3. The removal rate of Pb was between 12.1% and 69.9% when acid value was between 1.6 and 1.2. It increased linearly like Cd when acid value was between 0.6 and 1.2, and was nearly constant after 1.2. 4. The removal rates of heavy metal were 82.1% in case of Cd and 70.5% in case of Pb after 6 hrs treatment. 5. The removal reasons of heavy metals were assumed as follows ; a. Leachate by acids formed through oxidation of O & F b. Formation of organic metal compounds through chemical reaction with free radical c. Replace of heavy metal through dehydration
