Title
Reducing Residual Al Concentration in Treated Water Using Polymers
김승현Seung Hyun Kim,김영경Young Kyung Kim
Abstract
This study investigated whether residual Al concentration increased with increasing Al coagulant dosage. Whether the use of polymer is able to reduce residual A1 concentration was also investigated. For this purpose, cationic polyacrylamide was used as a flocculation aid. The study results showed that residual Al concentration was not affected by the increase in Al coagulant dosage, but that it was decided by the coagulation efficacy. Residual Al concentration reached its minimum value when coagulation was performed most efficiently. Particulate Al, which was a major portion of residual Al, showed a high correlation with settled turbidity. This indicated that particulate Al concentration could be reduced by improving liquid-solid separation process. Dissolved Al concentration was decided by Al(OH)₃ solubility. It could therefore be lowered by practicing coagulation at the pH where Al(OH)₃ showed the minimum solubility. The use of polymer failed to reduce residual Al concentration.
