Title
A Study on the Pretreatment Process for Improvement of Drinking Water Source

Abstract
The Nakdong River Pusan`s main water source has been contaminated by the inflow of inadequately treated domestic sewage, industrial and agricultural wastewater from the middle and upper reaches of the river. The polluants here are composed of NH₄-N, ABS, Color, KMnO₄ comsumption, THM precusors, E_(254) absorbance materials, iron and mangances. The prechlorination, the sxisting process of pretreatment produced THMs by reaction of the THM precusors with chlorine. In order to solve this problem and remove these pollutants an experiment was carried out to find out the chracteristics of biological aerated filter(BAF) and the effect of preozonation. The preozonation is effective in reducing Color, E_(254). However it was not effective in case of NH₄-N. On the otherhand, the BAF process is very effective in removing NH₄-N, BAF process is a little more effective than preozonation in removing ABS, KMnO₄ Consumption, THMFP etc.
