Abstract
In this study, a bromate behaviour was investigated in the basin of Nakdong river from Andong dam to Hagueun (total sampling site, 29: main stream, 14 and side stream, 15) and the processes of advanced water treatment system (AWTS), which consisted of preozonation, cross-flow settler, rapid sand filter, postozonation, biological activated carbon (BAC) beds. As a result, the bromide concentration in the river water was in the range of 20-148㎍/L in the main stream and 17-298㎍/L in side stream. In particular, the bromide level in Mulgum (83㎍/L) located at the low region was relatively lower than that in USA(100㎍/L). During May to November, the bromate was not detected in the influents of 6 water treatment plants (WTP) located at low region of the river, while the bromate concentration of <5㎍/L was detected in the effluent from two WTP (HM and DS) during August to November. For bromate behaviour in the processes of three WTPs, the bromate concentration of 1.2-9.4㎍/L was detected in postozonation and BAC processes. This phenomenon was particularly observed during September to November. These results indicate that influent quality and ozonations has affects bromate formation.
