Abstract
The influence of sulfate ion, an important ion contained in water, on coagulation using different coagulants in water treatment was discussed in this paper. Al(Ⅲ) and Fe(Ⅲ)were taken as coagulants and experiment conditions were determined by Jar-Tests. PDA (Photometric Dispersion Analyzer) was used to analyze Floc sizes and Floc shapes, with the latter decided by Fractal dimensions. Water turbidities of the samples after coagulation were compared. Results showed that sulfate ion had a significant impact on coagulation and zeta potential of the Floc surface. Sulfate ion was also found to be able to improve coagulant processes with overdoses of Al(Ⅲ) and Fe(Ⅲ).
