Title
Influence of Ammonia Nitrogen on the Efficiency of HAGS Process in Treating the Wastewater with Low Organic Level
현길수 Kil Soo Hyun , 최정우 Jeung Woo Choi
Abstract
This research was conducted to analyze soluble features of organic materials and affect of influent ammonia nitrogen (NH₄^(+)- N) in high-rate anaerobic granular sludge(HAGS) reactor using the wastewater with low organic level included NH₄^(+)- N mixed of synthetic wastewater and night soil treated by primary process. Based on the results of this researches, as a inhibition examination for granular sludge activity, TCOD removals were 90% at less than 200㎎ NH₄^(+)- N/L and 51-60 % at more than 300㎎ NH₄^(+)- N/L, which indicates NH₄^(+)- N concentration over 300㎎/L affects microbial population and activity in the HAGS reactor. Influent NH₄^(+)- N concentration of 452㎎/L have increased to 8.23 for pH, 3,780㎎/L as CaCO3 for alkalinity, 240㎎/L for volatile fatty acid (VFA), which indicate pH and alkalinity levels should be reduced to the proper level to recover the microbial activity. The granular sludge in the reactor at more than COD/NH₄^(+)- N ratio of 5 has produced a little of waste sludge because the substrate removed by granule sludge was largely used for microbial maintenance as energy source. On the other hand, the granule sludge at less than COD/NH₄^(+)- N ratio of 5 have been partly cracked. The emperical equation from the correlation of alkalinity and COD/NH₄^(+)- N ratio was given as follows : COD_(eff)=26.36 (Alklinity) `-0.777(COD/) + 5.764 (r² =0.99).
