Title
Comparison of Activated Sludge ( AS ) and Advanced Biotower Process for Improving Existing AS Process
현길수Kil Soo Hyun
Abstract
This researches were performed to improve the existing activated sludge(AS) process through the comparison of AS process and Advanced Biotower Process (ABP) on the mixture wastewater treatment. For the existing wastewater treatment plant, hydraulic retention time(HRT) of 6. 9∼13.7hours and sludge retention time(SRT) of 9.4∼22days were more longer compared to HRT of 6∼8hours and SRT of 3∼6days for conventional activated sludge process, which was similar to the operating condition of extended aeration process. F/M ratio of 0.11∼0.24㎏BOD/㎏MLSS.day of it were lower than conventional activated sludge process with F/M ratio of 0.11∼0.24㎏BOD/㎏MLSS.day. The effects of the Biotower on T-N and T-P removal was 2 to 2.5 times higher than the existing wastewater treatment plant, which indicates that the Biotower can reduced to 50∼80% of nitrogen and phosphorus or more under optimum operating condition of it. Based on the results of nitrogen and phosphorus removal with packed depths of the Biotower, denitrification rates were 69.8% for anaerobic zone, 84% for aerobic zone, and 84.4% for anoxic zone. Also, the release of phosphorus was 0.6㎎/l for anaerobic zone, phosphorus removal of anoxic zone was 1.88㎎P/l.
