Abstract
The degradation of oxalic acid by Mn (Ⅱ)-catalyzed ozonation was investigated at various Mn(Ⅱ) concentrations, oxalic acid concentrations and pHs to propose the reaction mechanism. The effect of Mn(II)(3.6x10 exp(-6)M) on the degradation of oxalic acid was shown that 1mole of Mn(Ⅱ) resulted in the reduction of 33mole of oxalic acid for 30min of reaction time. When Mn(Ⅱ) ion concentration increased, reduction rate of oxalic acid also enhanced but the slope of degradation rate gradually decreased. The increase of Mn (Ⅱ) ion concentration affected oxalic acid ozonation, whereas the degradation rate of oxalic acid was not changed by the different initial concentration of oxalic acid. And the higher concentration of ozone enhanced the degradation rate of oxalic acid. The degradation rate of oxalic acid was higher efficiency at pH=3 than at pH=7. Reaction mechanism and reaction rate equations were proposed to explain the observed reactive behaviors of the investigated systems.
