The Characteristics of BAC by Feeding of Phosphorus

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of DOC removal by addition of phosphorus used the mini-plant and activated carbon materials used pilot-plan in the BAC. The BAC column of the pilot plant was filled with coal base activated carbon and wood base activated carbon. In the mini-plant, the effects of phosphorus on the DOC removal on the BAC filled with coal base activated carbon were estimated. The all BAC column was operated at 15min of EBCT. The DOC removal rate in the wood base activated carbon was about 1.2 to 1.8 times of that in coal base activated carbon in the range of temperature of 20℃ to 5℃. And the thermal coefficients were 1.038 in the wood base activated carbon and 1.080 in the coal base activated carbon. The DOC removal rate in the BAC with addition of phosphorus was 1.83 times higher than that in the BAC without addition of phosphorus. And higher bioactivity on the DOC removal was preserved in the lower temperature by addition of phosphorus.
