Title
The bioregeneration of the BAC by denitrification
김덕진Duk Jin Kim
Abstract
The bioregeneration of Biological Activated Carbon(BAC) were investigated using denitrifying fluidized bed reactors. Labotory scale column packed with Granular Activated Carbon(GAC) and Artificial Light Aggregate(ALA) were fed with nitrate and sucrose in continuous experiment and semi-continuous experiment. The supply of sucrose as a solo organic carbon was controled during the experimental period. The BAC under steady state of the continuous experiments was supplies to the semi-continuous experiment. The organic carbon was supplied to each column for 20minutes in all semi-continuous experiment. The C/N ratio was controlled at 7.06 in all continuous experiment and semi-continuous experiment. Adsorption capacity for BAC were 73.7 to 71.6% of that for GAC, and adsorption rate for BAC was 30.4% of that for GAC. The amount of bioregeneration for BAC was higher than that of desorption calculated from adsorption isotherm. In the semi-continuous experiment, the evarge denitrification efficiency achieved 78% on the BAC, thought the influent C/N ratios were varied from 0 to 508. Bioregeneration due to denitrification was a first-order reaction with respect to adsorbed organic carbon quantity, and its rate was characterized by the Michealis-Menten type equation as to the loading rate of nitrate nitrogen.
