Title
Evaluating the Application of Enhanced Coagulation in Water Treatment Plants
김정현Jeong Hyun Kim
Abstract
The optimization of coagulation and flocculation process in Water Treatment Plant is necessary for the economical and efficient operation. The experiments of enhanced coagulation were conducted by types of coagulant, coagulant dosage and coagulation pH. This study was conducted with three types of water source(D, P, S) at three times for considering of seasonal and geological effect. The results obtained from this study were as follows. In most cases, the application of enhanced coagulation increases the cost in comparison with conventional type. However, the pH adjustment of coagulation with sulfuric acid reduced the cost of enhanced coagulation by reducing the required primary coagulant dose. In comparison of alum and ferric chloride, alum is more economical coagulants than ferric chloride in turbidity and TOC removal. The area of TOC removal is more narrowed than that of turbidity in pH and coagulants diagram, so TOC is treated more carefully than turbidity at the application of enhanced coagulation.
