Abstract
In this study, a submerged membrane bioreactor(SMBR) was applied for treating real sewage water. The system SMBR consists of two reactors. The sunction type of membrane was submerged in the 2nd reactors. The system was operated by anoxic/continuous aeration (Run 1), anoxic/intermittent aeration reactor (Run 2), one stage intermittent aeration reactor (Run 3), and 2-stage intermittent aeration reactor (Run 4) mode. Under opening mode of Run 1, 2 and 3, influent COD and effluent were 103.7∼147.0㎎/ℓ and 9.4∼16.5㎎/ℓ, respectively. The average removal efficiency of COD was 89.3%. However, TN removal efficiency was below 22.5% and lower removal efficiency of TP was obtained. Relative lower removal efficiency of TN and TP than COD was due to the low ratio of CBOD/NNH₄-N, 1.34∼2.45. However, under 2-stage intermittent aeration reactor (Run 4) mode, TN removal was improved to 33.4%. The 2-stage intermittent reactor was applied for treating higher C/N ratio wastewater (Run 5 and 6). With compact sewage water reactor with 2-stage intermittent aeration process, high organic removal (95% as COD and 98% as BOD) and nutrient removal (82.4% as TN and 60% as TP) were obtained. Initial membrane permeate flux of 0.1㎥/㎡/d at operating pressure of 0.1㎏_f/㎠ was reduced to 0.055㎥/㎡/d at the 70 days of operation.
